We have long admired the work Fabio Luisi does as the conductor of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He is also the General Music Director of Zürich Opera.
This month Luisi returns to the San Francisco Symphony to lead a program celebrating German Romanticism, with performances of Richard Strauss’s sweeping tone poem, Aus Italien, inspired by a trip to Italy taken by the young composer. Completed in 1886, it is Strauss’s first tone poem and is dedicated to his mentor Hans von Bülow. Pianist Igor Levit is featured in Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor, the only piano concerto written by the German composer.
