Distinguished Spanish maestro Rafael Frühbeck de
Burgos returned for Rimsky-Korsakov's spectacular, Scheherazade last
Wednesday to demonstrate that he had not lost a step.
Several remarkable solos by timps and trumpets were
also highligts of this musical magic carpet ride to the world of the Arabian
nights.
Making the evening’s San Francisco Symphony San Francisco Symphony
concert even more special was the inclusion of acclaimed
cellist and MacArthur Fellow Alisa Weilerstein.
Her inspired performance of Haydn’s elegant Cello
Concerto in C, was a revelation.
